William J. Byrnes is the Dean of the College of Performing and Visual Arts at Southern Utah University where he works with the departments of Art and Design, Music, and Theater Arts and Dance, as well as a graduate program in Arts Administration. In addition, he has oversight of the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery, the American Folk Ballet and works with the Tony Award-winning Utah Shakespearean Festival. He teaches in the Arts Administration program, coordinates programs sponsored by the Utah Center for Arts Administration, and lectures internationally on arts and culture management. Mr. Byrnes has worked for more than 35 years in all aspects of producing theatre, dance, and opera. He has done numerous workshops on leadership, planning, project management, budgeting, and employee relations. He is a past-President of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) and serves on several nonprofit boards including the Utah Shakespearean Festival Board of Governors, the ESTA Foundation, and the Cedar City Arts Council.
